When Biggan has knitted in public, she has noticed that people are very interested in how she knits. Having learnt to knit in Sweden, Biggan uses a technique called continental knitting which is quite different to the way most people have been taught to knit in Australia and the UK, although it is growing in popularity.
Continental knitting involves holding the working yarn with the left hand, which enables you to simply pick up the yarn through the loop. This eliminates the cumbersome movement of passing the yarn around the needle and results in a quick, smooth and natural action. Using this technique, we find that we not only knit much faster, but that we are able to watch TV or even read a book while knitting. The wonderful thing about this technique is that it is very easy to master!
